Ten years of operation of the Ath Checkpoint Prevention & Sexual Health Center
The Greek HIV Association “Positive Voice” and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation Europe organized an event on Tuesday, November 29, at Impact Hub Athens on the occasion of the completion of ten years of operation of the Ath Checkpoint Prevention & Sexual Health Center.
The event discussed the center’s achievements over the years and the importance of prevention,
In these ten years of operation, Checkpoint has performed more than 100,000 free HIV tests and respectively 22,000 for hepatitis B, 25,000 for hepatitis C and 5,000 for syphilis. More than 1,500 HIV diagnoses have been made at the prevention and sexual health centers in Athens and Thessaloniki, while 71% of the diagnosed individuals have been successfully connected through the Checkpoints to the corresponding Infection Units. More than 5.5 million condoms and almost 1 million information leaflets have been distributed. All of this suggests that Checkpoint has played a decisive role in promoting sexual health and prevention, having cultivated a culture of regular preventive examinations and constant information in an entire generation.
The event was held with the support of MSD Greece, GSK Greece and Gilead Sciences Hellas.
