SynAthina at the heart of Curing the Limbo
The mission of the Curing the Limbo pilot program is the implementation of innovative practices for the integration of refugees in the city of Athens and the development of a sustainable action model that will constitute a public policy proposal which can be applied to other European cities.
The implementation of Curing The Limbo is based on the idea that the integration of refugees is intertwined with their exit from prologned waiting and uncertainty for the future. Participants in the program are connected with active citizens through activities that respond to the current needs of the city. Through their involvement in the local civil society’s activities, refugees get acquainted with the city while contributing to the immobilization of themselves and the neighborhoods.
In the framework of Curing The Limbo, synAthina utilizes its tools and methodologies in order to
- link the needs of the program participants with the needs of the city.
- form, via co-Athens, a framework for cooperation between refugees and residents of the city through neighborhood activities
- coordinate and support sustainable forms of collaborative projects with a positive social impact
The City of Athens implements Curing The Limbo with the strategic partnership of the international non governmental organizations Catholic Relief Services and the International Rescue Committee, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA). The program is co-funded by the Urban Innovative Actions initiative of the European Union and the municipality of Athens.
