Citizens with psychosocial problems, often face difficulty in finding the service they need, when they need it. At the same time, the available services are much more than we usually think of, but often fail to become known to the general public. Furthermore, until recently there was no unified database to map them.
The Centres to Inform and Network Citizens with Services for Mental Health & Rehabilitation were created to direct citizens with psychosocial problems to the appropriate services. Following a mapping process which recorded the mental health services in five different regions of Greece, five call centers were created in order to provide the opportunity to all interested parties to obtain information and to be referred to the suitable and available services.
To implement this initiative five partners collaborated: the Company of Social Psychiatric and Psychological Health, P.O.Koi.S.P.E, Edra, Aktaia and PEPSAEE. The five actors are active at different regions in Greece and thus five pilot Information centers were created in: central Athens, western suburbs of Athens, Alexandroupoli, Lamia and the Dodecanese. In addition, the mapping of mental health services was also uploaded online and is accessible at http://mentalhelpnet.gr.
The Centres to Inform and Network Citizens with Services for Mental Health & Rehabilitation facilitate and help the citizens seeking for assistance, while at the same time highlight the value of networking and mapping as essential procedures for the implementation of operations with positive social impact.
